If Homeland is the best new show of the fall, Suburgatory is the best new comedy. It has a wry, fantastical sense of humor that would fit in perfectly with the 30 Rocks and Communitys of the world. It employs Ana Gasteyer, Chris Parnell, Cheryl Hines, Alan Tudyk, Jeremy Sisto, Rex Lee, and the instantly winning new comer Jane Levy. Those supposed new hit comedies (the ones with “Girl” in the title) could learn a thing or two from its stylized, colorful mise en scene and its nimble weave of real life conflict and overblown exaggeration. Not to mention a likable, honest-feeling female hero. Fans of Mean Girls would be wise to check it out, the parallel themes are obvious. And while it fits snugly into ABC’s built-from-the-ground-up comedy block, it’s a tinge smarter than the rest and therefore a rare breed, so watch it so it doesn’t get canceled.
